Very rare and early Gebrüder Thonet chaise longue, model #02. Also known as Canapé-Lit (sleep sofa) Model Nr. 9702

Designed by Michael Thonet. Produced in the 1920s and featured in Thonet Catalogue #14.
European ‘art nouveau’ style lounge originally designed for 1920s ocean liners and later popular in the coastal villas of southern France. Both beautiful and historically significant.

Frame is a classic bentwood S-shape terminating in volutes.

Thonet Chaise #02 is two hinged pieces in Beechwood stained to a dark walnut finish with original rattan inserts.

The original rattan in perfect order, just two very small pieces where the rattan is broken (see attached images). This item comes from its first owner, in whos family it has been ‘forever’.
