Set of 4 “Handkerchief” dining chairs, design Massimo Vignelli for Knoll Int., 1980s

Nice set of 4 chairs, dining chairs with armrests, designed in 1983 by Massimo Vignelli for Knoll International. Using compression molded plastics, they conducted a fabrication and design investigation that lasted 5 years, and ultimately captured the lightness and organic ease of a handkerchief drifting in the wind. For this reason, the chairs are known as “handkerchief” chairs.

Its base is made of steel wire finished in brightly polished chrome.

Seat shell is compression-molded, fiberglass-reinforced polyester with a urethane paint finish.
