About the artist:
Goené was trained at the Utrecht art academy Artibus from 1947. He learned painting from Mar Diemèl, sculpting from Piet Jongbloed, and monumental art from Abram Stokhof de Jong. Inspired by the Cobra movement founded in 1948, Goené worked experimentally and expressively. His sculptures, usually in abstract form, were made from scrap metal and bronze. As a painter, he worked in vibrant oil paints, both abstractly and figuratively (landscapes and women), drawing inspiration from artists like Henri Matisse and Picasso. In the 1960s, Goené became a teacher at Artibus. After a conflict with the board over his free teaching style, he had to leave the academy. In 1956, Goené became a member of the Sint Lucas Artists’ Association and in the 1960s of Stuwing. Stuwing consisted of a group of modern sculptors and painters who wanted to work freely and experiment with forms and materials. In 1958, he became a member of the Society for Art Love, and in 2006 he was appointed honorary member. His daughter Yvette (1959) works as a visual artist with enamel. Father and daughter exhibited together in 1994 in Friesland.
