Beautiful, minimalistic children’s high chair, design Ad Grimmon for Hopmi, The Netherlands, 1930s.
Very rare item.
The high chair was designed in 1936 for the Utrecht lock factory Hopmi. Three years earlier, Grimmon had collaborated with Herman Mertens to design a range of furniture for UMS (later Pastoe), which was also produced with Hopmi.
The furniture maker together with the bicycle factory, were experimenting with tubular steel furniture, which could preferably be disassembled and was available in separate parts. Sixty years later, Ikea made a name for itself with this approach.
In a good condition with signs of ageing such as patina on its frame and small stain(s) on fabric.
